The celebration at the Jewish Center of Girona was very special. It was attended by the rabbis of Barcelona, authorities, special guests and young people from the Jewish community of Girona and Barcelona. The event began with the evening prayer and the lighting of the seventh candle of the hanukiah by the Chief Rabbi of Barcelona, D. Meyer Bar-Hen. Then, the blessings and traditional songs were recited.

Afterwards, the president of the Center, D. Uriel Benguigui, and the Rabbi D. Dovid Liebersohn, director of Chabad Barcelona, gave some words of welcome and thanks. They emphasized the importance of keeping alive the flame of faith and Jewish identity, especially in these difficult times. They also spoke about the historical and cultural value of the Jewish Center of Girona, which houses the only synagogue, inaugurated in 2017. The Center is located in the heart of the call, the old Jewish quarter, where the illustrious rabbi Nahmanides lived.

Next, the sufganiot were served, which are sweet fried and stuffed fritters, typical of the holiday. It was a moment of joy and fraternity, in which we were able to talk and get to know the other attendees better.

The celebration ended with an emotional thank you to the state security forces, who watched over our safety and tranquility throughout the event. It was a gesture of recognition and gratitude for their work and their commitment to coexistence and tolerance.

La celebración en el Centro Judío de Girona fue muy especial. Contó con la participación de los rabinos de Barcelona, autoridades, invitados especiales y jóvenes de la comunidad judía de Girona y Barcelona. El acto comenzó con el rezo vespertino y el encendido de la séptima vela de la januquía por el Rabino Principal de Barcelona, D. Meyer Bar-Hen. Luego, se recitaron las bendiciones y los cánticos tradicionales.

Después, el presidente del Centro, D. Uriel Benguigui, y el Rabino D. Dovid Liebersohn, director de Jabad Barcelona, dieron unas palabras de bienvenida y de agradecimiento. Destacaron la importancia de mantener viva la llama de la fe y la identidad judía, especialmente en estos tiempos difíciles. También hablaron del valor histórico y cultural del Centro Judío de Girona, que alberga la única sinagoga, inaugurada en 2017. El Centro se encuentra en el corazón del call, el antiguo barrio judío, donde vivió el ilustre rabino Nahmanides.

A continuación, se sirvieron los sufganiot, unos buñuelos dulces fritos y rellenos, típicos de la festividad. Fue un momento de alegría y de fraternidad, en el que pudimos conversar y conocer mejor a los demás asistentes.

La celebración terminó con un emotivo agradecimiento a los cuerpos de seguridad del Estado, que velaron por nuestra seguridad y tranquilidad durante todo el evento. Fue un gesto de reconocimiento y de gratitud por su labor y su compromiso con la convivencia y la tolerancia.
